FAQs

FAQs

When do I get my T-shirt?
T-shirts will be distributed with your walker pack which also includes a map of Ipswich Town Football Club, a map of the route, further details about the night, your unique barcode and your party pack if you bought one. You should receive your pack in the post by Monday 17th May.

Can I collect my walker pack to save postage and packing?
Unfortunately you cannot collect your walker pack. We have given a great deal of thought to this but with such a large number of walkers we do not have the facility to distribute the packs from the Hospice which has very limited storage capacity for these items. The registration fee of £15 takes into account the cost of postage and packing and means that all sponsorship money you are able to raise goes directly to helping our patients and their families, friends and carers.

Will there be parking on the night?
Yes. You will be able to park in the Axa Insurance staff car park on Great Gipping Street and at the Ipswich Borough Council car park on Portman Road.  Parking is free and will be manned by volunteer marshals who will ensure that you are escorted to and from your vehicle.

Where is registration?
Registration will take place at Ipswich Town Football Club.  Entrance is via Gate 17 on Portman Road.

What time should I get to Ipswich Town Football Club to register?
Please arrive at Gate 17 no earlier than 30 minutes before your set off time. Gate 17 will be closed until 10pm so you will be required to queue on Portman Road should you arrive early.

Are there any lockers/storage facilities to leave things at the start?
Unfortunately there are no facilities to leave possessions at the football ground so please make sure you only bring absolute essentials that you can carry on the walk with you.

How do I hand in my sponsor money?
Please send a cheque and your sponsor form to:  Midnight Walk, Fundraising Team, 565 Foxhall Road, Ipswich, IP3 8LX.  Alternatively, you can bring the money to the Hospice. Please do not bring your sponsorhship money on the night.

How long is the route?
The route is 8 miles and there will be two refreshment and toilet points along the way.

How long will the walk take?
The walk will take approximately two-three hours for a fit walker but there is no rush and we encourage walkers to go at their own pace.  The walk is definitely not a race and there will be no pressure to finish in a certain time.  There will be lead walkers as well as walkers at the back of the pack to ensure the last participants return safely.  No walkers are allowed to run or jog and no walker must pass the nominated walk leader.

Where does the walk go?
The Midnight Walk is a circular walk through Ipswich starting and finishing at Ipswich Town Football Club on Portman Road. Visit the About the walk page to download a map of the route.

Will there be any refreshments?
There will be refreshments at two rest points on the route.  Participants can also purchase refreshments at Ipswich Town Football Club and we recommend you bring water to take on the walk.

Will there be toilets en route?
Toilet facilities will be available at the start and end of the walk and at the two rest points en route.

Will it be safe?
Your safety is of utmost important to us.  The event has been organised in conjunction with Suffolk Constabulary and the route will be well marshalled by volunteers.

What do I need to wear?
We recommend that you wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  Your registration fee includes a T-shirt and we are encouraging all participants to dress to impress!

Do I have to be fit?
No, you can take it at your own pace.  We do recommend that you train beforehand and feel able to complete a long walk.  Remember the Midnight Walk is a fun walk and you can take it at your own pace, however it is eight miles long.

Do I have to raise a certain amount of money?
There is no minimum sponsorship. However we ask that you aim to raise as much money as possible. Click here for sponsorship tips and ideas.

Why not use Justgiving to set up your own fundraising page?
You can create your own online fundraising page with details of what you are doing, when you are doing it and why you are doing it. Email a link to all your friends, family and colleagues anywhere in the world and they can donate online by debit or credit card.  No internet experience is necessary, it's really easy to set up and it avoids the hassle of chasing people for their sponsorship money!  St Elizabeth Hospice will automatically receive any donations made via your page.  Visit Justgiving now »

Can I gift aid my donation?
You can ask each person that sponsors you to gift aid their donation by ticking the gift aid box on your sponsor form.  If the person sponsoring you is a UK tax payer or pays Capital Gains Tax then they can make the donation worth even more.  For every £1 you give to us we get an extra 25p.
